EDUCAST, Ambassador of Israel to Nepal, Shmulik Arie Bass, has said that Israel’s primary objective is to secure the release of all hostages, including Nepali citizen Bipin Joshi, who remains in Hamas custody, and to end the control of Hamas in Gaza.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu, Ambassador Bass emphasized that no country should tolerate a terrorist organization engaged in violence and committed to its destruction. He criticized what he described as bias in recent United Nations resolutions, including one that called for a ceasefire but did not mention the release of hostages. He expressed disappointment that Nepal, too, supported the resolution without raising the issue of its own citizen.
The Ambassador stated that Israel continues to provide basic supplies such as water, food, and electricity to Gaza, while accusing Hamas of spreading misinformation, stealing aid, and putting civilians at risk. He added that Hamas still has thousands of armed fighters and has openly threatened to repeat the October 7 attacks.
Bass clarified that Israel’s actions are directed at Hamas and not at Palestinians or any religious or ethnic group. According to him, many people in Gaza also seek freedom from Hamas. He said the conflict could end if Hamas disarms and releases all remaining hostages.
Deputy Chief of Mission Janan Bebar also briefed the media, saying the press conference aimed to counter propaganda and present Israel’s perspective on the conflict. She said that international discourse often distorts facts, placing blame on Israel while ignoring the crimes committed by Hamas.
