EDUCAST, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sushila Karki attended a special reception hosted by the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu on Saturday to celebrate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Australia. The event highlighted the long-standing friendship, expanding cooperation, and the deep people-to-people ties that connect the two nations.
Addressing the gathering, PM Karki noted that Nepal–Australia relations have grown remarkably over the decades.
“Over more than six decades, our partnership has expanded into key areas such as education, trade, development, and culture. Nepal truly values Australia’s friendship, its continued development cooperation, and its principled support for Nepal’s democratic and inclusive transformation,” she said.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister also launched “65 Years Together”, a commemorative souvenir book published by the Association of Nepalese Alumni from Australia (ANAA). The publication highlights the evolution of bilateral ties and the powerful contributions made by Nepali alumni and community members in strengthening the relationship.
According to the Embassy’s press release, the Nepali diaspora in Australia has grown significantly in recent years, becoming one of the most vibrant communities contributing to Australia’s multicultural society while maintaining strong cultural and emotional ties with Nepal.
Nepal and Australia continue to collaborate closely across bilateral, regional, and global platforms, including the United Nations. The two countries share common agendas on climate action, sustainable development, gender equality, and peacekeeping, reinforcing a shared commitment to global peace, stability, and prosperity.
“The Australia–Nepal relationship continues to flourish with ever-increasing people-to-people connections, mutual respect for sovereignty, and the promotion of democratic values,” the Embassy noted.
This 65-year milestone reflects not only the diplomatic journey between the two governments but also the strong bonds built through education, migration, cultural exchange, and shared global priorities.
