Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu Celebrates 55th Independence and National Day with Grand Ceremony

    EDUCAST, The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu hosted a grand reception to mark the 55th anniversary of the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh. The Vice President of Nepal, Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, graced the event as the Chief Guest.

    The ceremony saw a high-profile gathering, including ambassadors from various nations, heads of diplomatic missions, government ministers, political leaders, senior officials, civil society representatives, and members of the Bangladeshi community living in Nepal.

    Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, Md. Shafiqur Rahman, paid profound tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the nine-month-long Liberation War of 1971. He expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of Nepal and its people for the invaluable moral and material support provided during Bangladesh’s struggle for independence.

    Ambassador Rahman reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties in key sectors, including trade, investment, energy, culture, education, and tourism. He specifically congratulated the newly formed government of Nepal led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah, expressing confidence that bilateral cooperation would reach new heights under his leadership.

    Furthermore, the Ambassador shared insights into the initiatives of the new Bangladeshi government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, stating their readiness to collaborate closely with Nepal and the international community. During the event, it was also announced that Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, has been nominated as a candidate for the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the 2027–2028 term, for which the Ambassador sought Nepal’s support.

    A highlight of the evening was the joint cake-cutting ceremony by Vice President Yadav and Ambassador Rahman. Both dignitaries exchanged toasts, wishing for the continued prosperity and unbreakable friendship between the two nations. The event concluded following a brief private discussion between the Vice President and the Ambassador on matters of mutual bilateral interest.
