NFTA Hosts 45th AGM: Calls for Unified Policy Reforms

    EDUCAST, The Nepal Foreign Trade Association (NFTA) successfully held its 45th Annual General Meeting at Hotel Hyatt Centric, Kathmandu, with notable participation from representatives of the government, private sector, and international community.

    In his opening remarks, NFTA President Mr. Shivkumar Agrawal stated that the association would incorporate valuable suggestions and guidance received from various sectors into its future strategies, reaffirming its commitment to protecting and promoting the interests of the business community.

    Chief Guest and Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ganesh Parajuli, emphasized that the lack of coordination between the government and private sector often leads to policy inconsistencies. He stressed the importance of both sides coming together on a common platform to ensure effective policy alignment and economic stability.

    Speaking at the event, Mr. Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), highlighted that close collaboration between the federation and trade associations is essential to address the current liquidity crisis and policy challenges.

    Similarly, Mr. Virendra Raj Pandey, President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), urged the government to immediately simplify administrative hurdles in cross-border trade to facilitate smoother export-import processes.

    Adding to the discussion, Mr. Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal, President of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, underscored the need for a more business-friendly tax system to curb revenue leakage and encourage legitimate trade practices.

    The event also featured the presence of international dignitaries, including H.E. Mr. Mr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ambassador of Bangladesh; H.E. Ms. Ruwanthi Delpitiya, Ambassador of Sri Lanka; and H.E. Mr. Thant Sin, Ambassador of Myanmar. The ambassadors expressed their commitment to strengthening regional trade relations and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

    The event was also graced by the presence of distinguished past presidents and advisors of the association. The meeting also saw active participation from Director Generals of various government departments, along with executive members and officials of the association, contributing to the overall success of the program.

    Concluding the event, First Vice President delivered a vote of thanks and invited all attendees to a networking dinner for further informal discussions.
