EDUCAST, KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital recently hosted a comprehensive orientation program at its campus in Mahalaxmi Municipality, Lalitpur, to welcome the 18th batch of MBBS, 15th batch of BDS, and 5th batch of B.Sc. MLT students. The event served as a formal induction into the medical profession, where senior faculty members and administrators outlined the academic and clinical expectations for the upcoming session.
Opening the ceremony, Academic Incharge Dr. Bijesh Pd. Joshi welcomed the new cohort, noting that their journey would transform them into healers through a curriculum that balances technical precision with empathy. Following the welcome, Dental Coordinator Dr. Rosha Shrestha detailed the academic structure of the BDS program. She explained that the five-year course, which includes a six-month internship, is designed to help students master clinical procedures while adhering to high ethical standards.

Addressing the global nature of the institution, Academic Coordinator Prof. Dr. Kishor Singh Basnet spoke regarding the support systems available for international students. He emphasized that the college is committed to providing a supportive environment where cultural exchange enhances the collective medical knowledge of the student body. This was complemented by Hospital Director Prof. Dr. Suraj Bajracharya, who briefed the students on the hospital facilities. He highlighted that the 300-bed teaching hospital in Imadol provides essential hands-on training, giving students access to advanced diagnostic labs and a diverse patient population.
The program also provided clarity on the various academic pathways available at KIST. It was noted that the 5.5-year MBBS program remains the most popular, requiring candidates to have secured 50% in their 10+2 science studies and passed the Medical Education Commission (MEC) entrance exam. Similar rigorous standards apply to the BDS and Nursing programs, which range from diploma to degree levels.
Concluding the event, Principal Prof. Dr. Balman Singh Karki delivered a vote of thanks. He commended the students for their success in the competitive MEC selection process and encouraged them to make full use of the campus facilities, including the on-site hostels and clinical departments, to prepare for their future roles in the healthcare sector.
