EDUCAST, The 31st French Language and Francophonie Week kicked off with an enchanting evening at the Patan Museum gardens, blending cinematic history with Nepali musical heritage. The highlight of the night was a unique cine-concert where the acclaimed Nepali band Kutumba performed a live score to the classic French silent film Paris Asleep by René Clair. Supported by the Embassies of France, Switzerland, and Egypt, this event beautifully merged the spirit of French and Nepali cultures through music and film.
The celebrations will move to the Alliance Française in Jhamsikhel for several more days, featuring a diverse lineup of cultural and community events. Highlights include a lively French garden party with live music this Saturday and a vibrant market and food festival on Sunday, which will also host a friendly pétanque tournament. The schedule further includes a screening of the acclaimed Egyptian film The Destiny on Monday, followed by a special digital museum exhibition on Tuesday and a final film screening next Thursday.
Supported by the Embassies of France, Switzerland, and Egypt in Nepal, the Francophonie Festival serves as a joyful platform for local and international audiences to explore the creativity of the French-speaking world. By integrating music, cinema, food, and sport, the event invites the public to discover the rich diversity of Francophone cultures. This collective effort highlights the importance of international cooperation in promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding within the Nepali community.
