Pokhara University has officially expanded its academic footprint to the Kathmandu Valley by operating the Shramik Shanti Campus in Chyasal, Lalitpur as its constituent campus. The announcement was made during a press conference held in Kathmandu on Friday. The campus was previously affiliated with Tribhuvan University as a community institution and has now been fully integrated under Pokhara University.
With this addition, the university now operates five constituent campuses nationwide. Speaking at the event, Prof. Buddhi Raj Joshi, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, stated that establishing the first constituent campus in Kathmandu marks a major milestone in the university’s academic journey.
Addressing the event, Dr. Deepanjal Shrestha, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Pokhara University, said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science are rapidly growing fields worldwide, unlocking unprecedented opportunities for Nepali students. He added,
“The world is being transformed by AI, and now Nepali students can gain global-level skills right from the Kathmandu Valley.”
Similarly, Dr. Surendra Tiwari, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, stated that Pokhara University has made significant progress in recent years through academic quality enhancement and structural reforms. He remarked,
“Through new structured programs, job-oriented education, and expanded access, Pokhara University aims to further strengthen its national academic leadership.”
The university announced that three new programs — AI & Data Science, BA LLB, and BSc CSIT — will officially begin in Kathmandu from this academic session. The event was attended by Roshan Mainali, Campus Head of Shramik Shanti Campus Kathmandu, Mrs. Sanu Ghale, Deputy Administrator, and Giriraj Aryal, BA LLB Coordinator of the campus.
According to the university, 80% of seats will be available under the tuition-paying category, while 20% will be allocated under scholarships. Priority under the scholarship quota will be given to students who studied in government or community schools from Grades 6 to 10, along with reserved seats for conflict-affected, economically disadvantaged, indigenous, Madhesi, and marginalized groups.
The total four-year fee structure has been set at NPR 4.98 lakh for AI & Data Science, NPR 4.30 lakh for BA LLB, and NPR 4.96 lakh for Bachelor of Computer System and Information Technology (BCSIT).
Pokhara University expressed confidence that this expansion will significantly strengthen its academic influence and accessibility in the Kathmandu Valley.
