Yenepoya University’s Hospitality Department Sets India Book of Records with 28-State Culinary Marathon

    EDUCAST, The Department of Hospitality Science at the Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM), a constituent of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), created history by entering the India Book of Records for organizing the fastest culinary and beverage marathon representing all Indian states.

    On National Tourism Day, January 30, 2026, 28 student chefs and 28 student bartenders simultaneously prepared 28 traditional dishes and 28 beverages representing India’s 28 states in just 28 minutes. The event celebrated India’s rich culinary diversity while showcasing creativity, precision, and teamwork among hospitality students.

    The record achievement was officially recognized by the India Book of Records during a felicitation ceremony on March 7, 2026, at YIASCM Kulur Campus, Mangaluru. The event, held under the theme “28 States, 28 Chefs, 28 Dishes, 28 Bartenders, 28 Beverages in 28 Minutes,” highlighted the unity and diversity of Indian gastronomy.

    The felicitation program included a welcome dance and a video presentation showing highlights of the marathon. Mr. Mervin Jaison Vas, Head of the Department, shared insights on the meticulous planning and execution required to maintain authenticity and presentation standards for each state’s dish and beverage.

    Dr. B T Nandish, Controller of Examinations at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), attended as the Guest of Honour. He described the achievement as a proud moment, emphasizing that the event reflected innovation, teamwork, and excellence beyond classroom learning. He congratulated Principal Prof. Jeevan Raj, Vice Principals Prof. Shareena P and Mr. Narayan Sukumar A, department faculty, and students for their outstanding performance.

    The record was officially certified by Advocate Harish R, adjudicator from the India Book of Records, who presented the certificate to the department. Certificates of Appreciation were also distributed to participating chefs and bartenders by faculty coordinators Mr. Nitesh Someshwar and Mr. Vinyas B.

    In his presidential address, Principal Prof. Jeevan Raj called this a historic milestone, praising the collective effort and coordination of students and faculty. He added that the initiative strengthened the university’s academic reputation and demonstrated the institution’s commitment to excellence and teamwork.

    The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Nitesh Someshwar, followed by the national anthem. Notable attendees included Chef Komal S. Prabhu, Managing Director of Maharaja Multicuisine Family Restaurant. The event was compered by Dr. Anna Kurian, while Ms. Jennifer Roberts welcomed the audience.

    This unique record achievement reinforces Yenepoya University’s position as a leader in hospitality education and innovation.
