Pakistan Marks 86th National Day with Flag Hoisting Ceremony in Kathmandu

    The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu commemorated the 86th National Day of Pakistan with a formal flag hoisting ceremony held at the chancery premises on Sunday.

    His Excellency Ambassador Abrar H. Hashmi hoisted the national flag of Pakistan, marking the historic occasion. Messages from the President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out during the ceremony.

    In his message, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized that Pakistan Day serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and solidarity in transforming national aspirations into reality. He highlighted the nation’s resilience in the face of challenges and stressed the need to uphold the rule of law, strengthen democratic institutions, reduce inequality, empower women, and eliminate terrorism and extremism.

    Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, described March 23 as a landmark day in the history of South Asia. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to global peace, noting that lasting peace in the region is closely tied to a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue. He also expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine and voiced concern over ongoing tensions in the Middle East, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to balanced diplomacy, dialogue, and regional stability.

    Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar paid tribute to the vision and sacrifices of Pakistan’s founding leaders. He acknowledged the economic and political challenges arising from regional tensions and highlighted the government’s austerity measures. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued political, moral, and diplomatic support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their pursuit of self-determination.

    Speaking at the event, Ambassador Abrar H. Hashmi extended his congratulations to the Pakistani community and their families in Nepal. He praised their contributions and expressed confidence in further strengthening Pakistan-Nepal relations. Highlighting the historic significance of March 23, 1940, he paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the sacrifices of the founding generation.

    The Ambassador also expressed solidarity with the people affected by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and announced that the Pakistan National Day Reception would not be held this year, in accordance with the Prime Minister’s instructions.
