EDUCAST, On October 12, 2023, the Hyatt Regency in Boudha, Kathmandu, played host to a grand celebration marking the Day of German Unity and the 65th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Nepal and Germany. The event, graciously hosted by His Excellency Dr. Thomas Prinz, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Mrs. Anuza Prinz, drew in more than 400 esteemed guests.

This remarkable occasion not only commemorated six and a half decades of fruitful bilateral relations but also coincided with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of KfW, and the 60th year of financial cooperation between Nepal and Germany. KfW, as an integral part of German Development Cooperation, has channeled vital financial cooperation funds from the German Government to Nepal across various sectors, nurturing growth and development.

Rt. Honourable Mr. Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Chairman of the National Assembly, graced the event as the chief guest, underscoring the significance of the occasion. In attendance were distinguished dignitaries from various Nepali government ministries, leaders of political parties, heads of diplomatic missions in Kathmandu, representatives from civil society, human rights advocates, business leaders, members of the media, and individuals from diverse walks of life.

In his warm welcome address, Ambassador Prinz emphasized the enduring friendship and solidarity that have marked the 65 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Germany. He reflected on the historical moments when Germany stood by Nepal during challenging times, including the civil war, the devastating earthquake in 2015, and the ongoing battle against the Covid-19 pandemic. Ambassador Prinz expressed his commitment to continuing support and lauded Nepal’s remarkable progress.

The Ambassador also took a moment to convey condolences to the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Israel, reaffirming the global interconnectedness and shared values that bind nations together.

Furthermore, Ambassador Prinz noted the historic event of the fall of the “Berlin Wall” in 1989, a pivotal moment in Germany’s history. This momentous occasion marked the end of 28 years of division and ushered in an era of unprecedented unity, not only in Germany but throughout Europe. The “Berliner Mauer,” which once physically separated East and West Germany, gave way to the Peaceful Revolution of 1989, and on November 9, 1989, the border was finally opened, allowing Germans to move freely throughout their unified nation.
