EDUCAST, The European Union has launched two major regional aviation safety initiatives in Kathmandu under the EU–South Asia Aviation Partnership Project (EU–South Asia APP). Spanning a two-week period, these programs bring together aviation authorities, airlines, and technical experts from across South Asia to enhance regional flight safety and compliance.

    Key Highlights of the Initiatives

    • Regional Aviation Safety Programme (RASP) Module (23–25 June): Co-hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and aircraft manufacturer ATR, this module addresses Crew Training and Operational Standards. It focuses on human factors including decision-making, operational resilience, and fatigue management. A core feature includes regional airlines sharing practical case studies and operational experiences.

    • Continuing Airworthiness Workshop (29 June–2 July): Held under the South Asia Regional Initiative (SARI), this session will cover the latest European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulations and modern safety oversight concepts.

    • Progress on Nepal’s Air Safety Reforms: Thomas Millar, Chargé d’affaires at the EU Delegation to Nepal, noted that the EU has received Nepal’s complete Corrective Action Plan package. The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) is scheduled to review the package in the coming months to address long-standing safety concerns.

    Strategic Importance

Funded by the EU and implemented by EASA, the project marks a shift from isolated technical exchanges toward a structured, long-term regional partnership. The initiatives align with the EU’s broader Global Gateway strategy, aiming to foster safer, more resilient, and well-connected air transport systems to support tourism and economic development across South Asia.
