EDUCAST, On April 23, 2026, Kathmandu University and Macquarie University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic cooperation, research collaboration, and institutional exchange.

The signing ceremony was held at the Kathmandu University School of Management in Balkumari, with the presence of senior university officials, faculty members from various KU schools, and a representative from the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu.

Following the agreement, KU Registrar Prof. Dr. Rajeev Shrestha highlighted the importance of global partnerships in enhancing academic excellence and research innovation, expressing interest in expanding collaboration across all seven KU schools. Mr. Tanveer Shaheed, Director of International Recruitment at Macquarie University, emphasized the institution’s commitment to global engagement and creating broader opportunities for students and faculty.

Mr. Greg Klemm, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Australian Embassy, noted the growing educational ties between Nepal and Australia, encouraging sustained collaboration through initiatives such as the New Colombo Plan. KU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle expressed optimism about the partnership, stressing the importance of faculty exchange, knowledge transfer—including indigenous knowledge—and collaboration in entrepreneurship and innovation.

The MoU aims to promote joint research, student and faculty exchanges, collaborative teaching, and interdisciplinary knowledge sharing. It also builds on a series of academic engagements between the two universities that began in 2015, marking another milestone in KU’s efforts to expand its global academic network.
